Victorian Era vs Modern Era

This week, I want to talk about the comparison of fashion in modern era and Victorian era. In Victorian era, one of the most important thing for women was maintain a good body shape to have a good image. Victorian era was known of their elegance and feminity. Most of nobility women tend to wore such a complicated dress. The gown they wore consist of several layers. Women in Victorian era use petticoat to make the gown more puffy and corset to maintain the body shape. Usually the gown were square neckline and there are laces. They style their hair and use a lot of hair accessories, such as hat, jewelry, and parasol.

This is what they called as petticoat to make the dress more puffy.
But, as we can see in this modern era, women tend to wear a simple dress or gown. Most of the women in this era prefer to wear mini dress. Not too complicated and not too much accessories around the body, less people wear corset because it is not so comfortableand quite painful. Dress in the victorian era is more detail like laces all over the gown, but dress nowadays is less detail the only put detail in certain part of the dress. And how they do a hairdo is different, nowadays the way we do a hairdo is simpler, we don't put so much accessories in the hair.
Victorian Era hairstyle or hairdo.

One of Modern Era hairdo which is very simple compare to Victorian Era.

Victorian Era dress with many layers.

Simple dress in Modern Era.
Those are the difference between modern fashion and Victorian era fashion. In the past, women will do anything to keep their good image and femininity, but in this era, there are so many style of fashion not only femininity.

Singapore Grand Prix

On the 20 until 22 of September, Singapore’s largest motorsports and entertainment extravaganza happened. We called it Formula 1 or f1. Formula One  is the highest class of single seater auto racing supported by the Federation Internationale de I'Automobile (FIA). This event was held around Marina Bay Sands Singapore. There are several types of tickets, such as The Friday Zone 4 Walkabout (S$68), Bay Grandstand (S$298) and Turn 3 Premier Grandstand (S$2,128) tickets are selling fast. Limited availability remains in the Zone 1 Combination (S$788) and Padang Combination (S$698) ticket categories. Additional rows of seats have been added to the Padang Grandstand (S$598) inventory to cater to strong demand. There are also some celebrities each day. For friday there is a boyband from Korea called Big Bang, for Saturday there is The Killers, and for Sunday there is Rihanna. For Monday or the closing day there are super guests to celebrate the closing. They are Justin Bieber and Owl City. The winner of Singapore Grand Prix this year is Sebastian Vettel. Below are some pictures of Singapore Grand Prix.

One of Big Bang's member, G-Dragon, posted this photo at twitter.

Performance by Rihanna.

Justin Bieber who performed at the closing.

I think it was very fun since I never saw Formula 1 before. The car's sound is just so cool. The event is getting crowded each day, especially the closing. I think we must queue quite a long time to enter the arena. I think the ticket price is worth it, because the guest stars and the race is just amazing.

Window Display

Have you ever notice the window display in every store?
Is it good or bad?
Sometimes when I go to mall, I pay attention to the window display of the store. Some of them are very  interesting and eye-catching but some of them are not so suitable for the window display.
So this week I was tempted to write about some of the window displays.

Miu Miu is one of branded store which sells clothes, accessories, footwear, and also bags. I think this is simple and classic type of window display. Because this type of window display is quite mainstream.

Dior is one of high class branded in the world. They sell women's haute couture, leather goods, perfume, handbags, and many more. The first time I saw this display, it's quite appealing but still not that eye-catching. I think it's very simple since Dior is a big fashion company I think they could do better than this.

Swarovski is one of the most popular jewellery store. They sell jewelries, charms, and also crystal figures. I think it is an attractive window display since it is bling-bling it would attract people even from far. I think it suits Swarovski's personality because it is bling-bling.

Louis Vuitton is one of the most popular brand in the world. They sell bags, footwear, clothes, and accessories for men and women. Louis Vuitton's window display is very impressive and also eye-catching. Because of the colorful arrow and it points to the display item. I love this kind of window display.

The two pictures above is Prada window display. They sell clothes, handbags, leather goods, shoes, perfumes, and many more. I think the window display is quite okay, but it is neither eye-catching nor interesting. The window display is too simple and they do not show their retro-kind-of-feeling from Prada. I think they can make something better than the current window display.

Tods sells window display. handbags, shoes, and also leather goods. The window display is minimalistic and I think it is too simple. But by seeing this window display, I personally think they executed what they were going for.

That is all about my opinion for some of window display. I think window display is quite important because it can attract people to enter the store. But if the window display is too boring or mainstream, I think people will not attracted and will not come to the store.

NOISE Singapore

Have you ever heard about NOISE in Singapore?
Actually I just knew there such a thing in Singapore. So, NOISE is dedicated to young talented people aged below 35 years old in Singapore. It encouraged young people in Singapore to express, develop, and showcase their creativity.

Last month, I went to NOISE Singapore for the first time at ION Orchard with my friends. I will post some young talented creatures below.

This is the view of the exhibition from the upper floor

One of the talented person's creativity. It is like there is a person walk through the wall.

Visitors can write anything in the blackwall.

Some drawings of art and design.

This is one of my favourite creature in this exhibition. This person create lamps and inside each lamp there is different pattern. The 2 pictures below are the example of the pattern inside the lamp.
And the outside part of the lamp there is a quote

I was attracted by this person's creativity. His idea is out of the box, I was very impressed by idea of holding a car toy then took a picture as if that car toy was in the middle of the road. This masterpiece is very unique.

So, I thought that's all about my review of NOISE Singapore. I think this kind of event is very useful and interesting since they encourange young people to participate and pour their innovation. People can get a valuable experience by join this kind of event.

National Day of Singapore!

First of all, I want to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Singapore! Singapore's birthday is on the 9th of August. These pictures were taken at Marina Bay Sands.

So, on the 9th of August, my friends and I went to Marina Bay Sands to watch fireworks. It was very crowded around Marina, there were so many tourists there from all over the world. We must walked quite far to get a good angle to see the fireworks because most of the places were taken already. The fireworks started at about 8.15 pm and it was very very AMAZING! I can not describe by words.
Sorry if the pictures are not good enough because it was taken by phone camera. Enjoy!

The Building

Last week I talked about some paintings we saw at the National Museum. And for now let me show you some photos of the National Museum building.

National Museum is the nation's oldest museum. It established on 1877. It recently renovated to neo-classical building and now they present permanent exhibitions on Singapore culture and history. they also used art multimedia technology to bring history to life. The visitors can find some nation's treasures such as, the mystery-shrouded Singapore Stone and 14th century gold ornaments. We can also learn more about Singapore's  culture all over the time, Singapore's multi-racial, and Singapore's oral history.

National Museum of Singapore

I went to National Museum of Singapore last week with my friends. This is my first time visit the National Museum and I was amazed by all of the things inside. At that time, we visit two types of galleries, the first one is about the history of Singapore and the second one is about Princely Treasures from the House of Liechtenstein. In this post I will talk about some paintings in House of Liechtenstein gallery.

This painting is attributed to Lucas Van Valckenborch. The title of this painting is "The Parable of the Blind Leading the Blind". This painting gives visual expression to the verse from the Gospel of Matthew, "If the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch." At first, I don't understand about the meaning of this painting until my friend ask me to think deeper about the meaning of this painting. It reminds us to follow the right path or the right people. If you follow the wrong people, you will be fall to the wrong path.

This painting is a Portrait of Alexandra of Denmarks, Queen of Edward VII. The artist who paint this painting is unknown. Alexandra is the eldest daughter of the king of Denmarks. Alexandra did charity works and also known as a keen photographer. In this painting, she looks very glamorous in this gown. At that era, women's fashion is tend to be feminine.

This is the painting by Francesco Hayez. The title is Il Consiglio alpa Vendetta. Hayez is popular by his romantic historical paintings. This work was inspired by an unpublished novel by Andrea Maffei. The exquisite Venetian backdrop affect the theatrical setting. The painting is about the deceit of Maria's lover. And she was pushing away Rachel who tried to comfort her.

This painting was made by Alessandro Magnasco. The title is Bacchanak with Capriccio of Antique Ruins.

Both of the pictures above is a painting by Giovanni Paolo Pannini. It is called Capriccio with the Most Important Architectural Monuments and Sculpture of Ancient Rome.

One of the most meaningful painting in the gallery is a painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. The title is "The Triumph of the Death". This painting make me realize that we can not escape from death, even though you are an army, a royalty, a musician, in the end we all will leave this world.
