National Museum of Singapore

I went to National Museum of Singapore last week with my friends. This is my first time visit the National Museum and I was amazed by all of the things inside. At that time, we visit two types of galleries, the first one is about the history of Singapore and the second one is about Princely Treasures from the House of Liechtenstein. In this post I will talk about some paintings in House of Liechtenstein gallery.

This painting is attributed to Lucas Van Valckenborch. The title of this painting is "The Parable of the Blind Leading the Blind". This painting gives visual expression to the verse from the Gospel of Matthew, "If the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch." At first, I don't understand about the meaning of this painting until my friend ask me to think deeper about the meaning of this painting. It reminds us to follow the right path or the right people. If you follow the wrong people, you will be fall to the wrong path.

This painting is a Portrait of Alexandra of Denmarks, Queen of Edward VII. The artist who paint this painting is unknown. Alexandra is the eldest daughter of the king of Denmarks. Alexandra did charity works and also known as a keen photographer. In this painting, she looks very glamorous in this gown. At that era, women's fashion is tend to be feminine.

This is the painting by Francesco Hayez. The title is Il Consiglio alpa Vendetta. Hayez is popular by his romantic historical paintings. This work was inspired by an unpublished novel by Andrea Maffei. The exquisite Venetian backdrop affect the theatrical setting. The painting is about the deceit of Maria's lover. And she was pushing away Rachel who tried to comfort her.

This painting was made by Alessandro Magnasco. The title is Bacchanak with Capriccio of Antique Ruins.

Both of the pictures above is a painting by Giovanni Paolo Pannini. It is called Capriccio with the Most Important Architectural Monuments and Sculpture of Ancient Rome.

One of the most meaningful painting in the gallery is a painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. The title is "The Triumph of the Death". This painting make me realize that we can not escape from death, even though you are an army, a royalty, a musician, in the end we all will leave this world.
